Two customers in one phone

Every trade has the same split. The first customer has a problem right now. The second has a project and time to compare.

The first one searches with a phone in one hand. Google shows a map with three businesses above the websites, and the caller rings whichever looks open and well reviewed. The second one reads several sites, looks at photos of finished work and asks for quotes. They search for the job by name, and a page about that job can rank for it.

SEO for a tradie has to cover both. The profile wins the call that comes today. The website wins the work that is planned, which is often the more valuable work.

Start with the profile

Your Google Business Profile is where urgent calls are decided. We check that your primary category is right, that your hours match when you really answer, and that your service area lists the places you actually drive to. We add photos from your own jobs each month and help you ask for a review after every finished job. Google says reviews and ratings can help local ranking, and they help a caller choose between three listings.

A page for each job

A services page with one line per job cannot rank for any of them. A page for each job can. We write each one for the customer who is still deciding, with what the job involves, what changes the price, how long it takes and photos of your own work.

The same rule applies in reverse. Build pages only for work you do. A page for a job you do not offer brings visits you cannot serve, and that is wasted effort on both sides.

Area pages that earn their place

If you cover an hour of coastline, Google needs a reason to show you in the far end of it. A page about that area can give one, when it says something true about the work there. We built eighteen of these for a carpenter who covers the coast from Helensburgh to Nowra, and Google now shows his site about five times as often as it did before the rebuild.

We also learned what not to do. Suburb pages that differ only by the name were thin, and we pruned them on a pest control site. A few good pages beat a large set of copies.

Plan around your own busy months

Each trade has its own calendar. Decks and pergolas pick up before summer. Hot water fails in winter. Storms bring leaks and faults in waves. The planned jobs need pages that are already ranking when the season starts, so we schedule content ahead of your busy months and not during them.

What we count

We count taps on your phone number and every quote form, with a line on each enquiry saying where it came from. A builder we work with has logged about fifteen enquiries in two weeks from search and Google Ads together. An appliance repair business has around two hundred enquiries a month, including visitors from its ads. Neither number is a promise for your trade.

Early clicks on a trade site often come from people searching the business name. We report those apart from searches for the jobs themselves, because growth in job searches is the better sign.

Where to go next

The plumber, electrician and builder pages on this site go into how each trade is searched and what we build for it. Carpenters, roofers, painters and other trades follow the same method with their own jobs. We will not promise a ranking, a date or a number of jobs. We will keep your profile accurate, build the pages that match your work and send an honest report every month.

Reviews and the first look

A customer choosing between three listings reads the reviews before anything else. We set up a simple way to ask after each finished job, such as a text with your review link, and we reply to every review in your voice. Replies show a new customer that someone is paying attention. Avalanche Pest Control shows its live Google rating on the site, because a stale number typed in by hand is worse than none.

Why trade sites go slow

Most trade sites are built from stock templates, and carry large photos that load slowly on a phone. A customer with a leak will not wait. We compress your photos, keep the page light and put the phone number where a thumb reaches it. Speed is not glamorous, and it decides whether the caller stays.

How people look for a tradie

Tradie customers search in two ways. A blocked toilet or a dead switchboard gets a phone call to the first business that looks open on the map. A deck, a bathroom or a termite barrier gets a week of reading, a few photos saved and three quotes requested. The first search is decided by your profile and your reviews. The second can be decided by a page on your site.

The jobs they need

  • Emergency call outs
  • Quoted jobs
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Renovations and new work

What they type into Google

  • plumber near me
  • emergency electrician
  • deck builder
  • pest control near me

SEO for tradies: your questions

What does SEO for a tradie actually include?
A complete Google Business Profile, a page for each job you want more of, pages for the areas you really work in, your own photos, and a monthly report on calls and forms. We also fix the plain technical faults that stop a trade site loading quickly on a phone.
Do I need a website if I already get work from word of mouth?
Most people who hear your name still look you up before they call. A site that shows your work, your licence and your service area turns a referral into a booking. SEO is what adds the customers who have never heard of you.
Is Google Business Profile or my website more important?
For urgent jobs, the profile. For planned jobs, the website. Most trades need both, and the trade pages on this site go into the split for plumbers, electricians and builders.
How long before SEO brings in calls?
Nobody can give you a date. Profile fixes can show within weeks. New job pages take longer, and it depends on how many businesses in your area do the same work. We report each month what moved, and you judge it from the calls and forms.
Can I rank in suburbs I do not live in?
Sometimes, if you have a page that says something true about work there. A page that swaps one suburb name for another is a template, and Google's spam policies describe pages built for town after town as doorways. We build fewer, better area pages.
Can the same site cover more than one trade?
Yes, if you really offer both and hold the licences. Build a page for each trade you offer and none for the ones you do not. One site we run ranked for trades the business does not offer, and those visits did nothing for it.
Can I cancel?
Yes. SEO is a month to month add-on and cancels on 30 days notice. The site, the profile and the content stay yours.
