Ads suit work you want now
Search is slow to build and Google Ads is fast. That makes ads a good fit for trades with a job to fill this week, and a poor fit for a business that cannot answer the phone. Before we spend your money, we ask three questions. Which job do you want more of? Where will you drive? Who picks up the phone, and when?
The answers shape the account. A drain unblocker, a carpenter and a builder all use the same tool, but the accounts look different. The trade pages on this site go into the specifics for plumbers, electricians and builders. This page covers what holds for every trade.
Your own account
You create the Google Ads account and add your own card. You pay Google directly for every click, and we never hold your payment details. We are added as a manager, and you can remove us any time. Our fee covers managing the account, month to month. We do not put you on a long contract.
The schedule follows the phone
An advert that rings out is the most expensive click you can buy. We set the ad schedule around the hours someone answers, and we check it after the first fortnight against the calls that were really missed.
Some businesses do better with a form. A booking form that says when you will call back can catch out of hours clicks, if it has proved it converts. We test that on the data, and do not guess. Where a sole trader is on a roof all day, the form carries more of the load than the phone.
Count calls and forms, and nothing else
Google counts some actions on its own, and they can inflate the total badly. On an appliance repair account we manage, the account reported 284 conversions over 30 days against roughly 30 real enquiries. We set up three conversions: calls from the ad, taps on the phone number on your site, and quote forms sent. The form asks for a name, a phone number or email, and a comment.
Negative keywords that know your trade
Trade searches attract people who will never hire you. They want a job, a course, a DIY guide or a trade you do not offer. We read the search terms report each week and add negatives, checking each one against what you really do. A word that is junk for one trade can be a customer for another, so the list is written per account.
Landing pages that match the click
An advert for a hot water repair should land on a page about hot water repair. For a builder we run ads for, the landing pages carry no site menu, so the visitor sees the job, the proof and the quote form. If your site is not ready for that, we build the pages first.
What you receive each month
A short report with spend, clicks, enquiries and cost per enquiry, plus the changes we made and why. If a campaign is not producing enquiries, we say so and move the budget. We do not promise a number of leads. We promise that the numbers you see are the ones your phone and your forms recorded.
Budgets that flex with the trade
Some trades have demand that changes with the weather or the season. A roofer can see a rush after a storm. A carpenter sees decks peak before summer. We set a daily cap so a burst of clicks cannot spend the month in two days, and we raise or trim budgets as your own calendar moves. You approve any change to the budget before it happens.
Who it suits
Ads suit a business that has capacity for more work, a phone someone answers, and a site that can take a quote. If you are booked solid for two months, we would rather tell you to wait than spend your money.
Changes you can see
Every change to the account is listed in the monthly report, with the reason. If we pause an ad group, add a negative or move budget, you read it in plain words. You can also open the account at any time and see the same history, because it is yours.
How people look for a tradie
Someone with a leak, a fault or a pest problem searches with a phone in their hand and rings the first advert that looks local. Someone planning a deck or a bathroom searches by the job and compares quotes. Ads can reach the first customer in minutes, which also means a missed call costs you money straight away.
The jobs they need
- Emergency call outs
- Quoted jobs
- Repairs and maintenance
- Renovations and new work
What they type into Google
- plumber near me
- emergency electrician
- deck builder
- pest control near me
Work we run for tradies
Wollongong Service Company and Ovas Build are trade businesses whose Google Ads we manage. All Round Carpentry and Avalanche Pest Control are search clients. Each card says which numbers are search and which include ads.

Wollongong Service Company
~200Enquiries a month
An Illawarra appliance repair business with a 20 year reputation now gets about 200 enquiries a month from a tradie website built for phones and local search.

Ovas Build
15Enquiries in two weeks
A builder who got no leads from lead services now reports several large project enquiries a week, from a tradie website we had live in about a week.

All Round Carpentry
5xMore Google impressions
One carpenter, Helensburgh to Nowra: 18 suburb pages, 11 services and his own photos, and Google now shows the site about five times as often.

Avalanche Pest Control
4xMore clicks from Google
A redback nest, rats in the roof: people ring the first pest controller they find. After the rebuild, Google sends this one about four times the clicks.

Google Ads for tradies: your questions
- Are Google Ads worth it for a tradie?
- They can be, when the phone is answered and the tracking is honest. Ads suit work you want now, such as a booking this week. If nobody picks up, or the account counts the wrong things, the money goes quickly.
- How much should a tradie spend a day?
- You set it and pay Google directly. A sensible start is one job type in the area you really cover, then judging it on real enquiries before adding more. Our management fee is separate from your ad spend.
- Should the ads run all day and night?
- Only when someone answers, or when your booking form has proved it converts out of hours. One account we run moved to all hours once the form showed night clicks still turned into bookings. Another stays inside working hours.
- What is a negative keyword?
- A word that tells Google not to show your ad. Tradies use them to block searches for jobs, courses, DIY and trades they do not offer. We read the search terms report each week and check each negative against your work first.
- Why does my account say I have far more conversions than enquiries?
- Google can count actions such as a tap on the call button in the ad or a request for directions. On an appliance repair account we run, those actions made the total look about nine times the real number of enquiries. We count calls, phone taps and forms only.
- Do I own the account?
- Yes. You create the account and add your own card. We are added as a manager. If you cancel, you remove our access and keep the account, the campaigns and the history.
- Which trade should start with Ads first?
- Whichever has a job you want now and a phone that is answered. A trade with a long sales cycle, such as building, needs a longer view. A trade with urgent calls needs the schedule right first.
