A small account for a slow buyer
A tiling enquiry is not urgent. The customer is renovating, the bathroom is half designed, and the tiler may not be needed for weeks. That changes how the account should work. There is no emergency to win, so no reason to chase the most expensive keywords.
We build a small account around searches that show real intent: bathroom tiler, floor tiling, and the names of the suburbs you work in. A modest daily budget is enough to learn which of these send people who ask for a quote. You can raise it later if it earns its place.
One job type to start
Tilers do bathrooms, kitchens and splashbacks, floors, outdoor paving and pools. They are priced differently and bought by different people. A single account trying to cover all of them spreads a small budget thin.
We begin with the job you most want, usually bathrooms, and point the ads at a page written for it. If that works, floors and outdoor areas follow as separate ad groups with their own pages. Each lands on a page that matches what was searched, which Google rewards and a customer notices.
Keeping the shoppers out
Tile searches are crowded with people who are buying tiles, not hiring a tiler. They type tile prices, tile shop, a product name or how to regrout a shower. Some intend to do the work themselves.
Each week we read the search terms report and add negatives for tile suppliers, retail, products and do it yourself guides. Each one is checked against what you do first. If you also do regrouting, we keep those searches in and send them to a regrout page. Our post on negative keywords for local service accounts explains the method.
Ads that ask for photos and measurements
A tiling quote needs information. The room, the tile size, the floor condition and whether waterproofing is included all change the price. A form that only asks for a name and number produces a call that starts with ten questions.
The landing page keeps the form to a name, a phone number or email, and a comment, and the comment prompt asks for the room, rough size and photos. That gives you what you need to reply with a useful figure. It also filters out people who only wanted a number.
Counting what matters
Google Ads can report conversions that were not enquiries. On one account we run, Google had been counting about ten times more conversions than there were real enquiries, which taught the bidding the wrong lesson.
We set up calls from the ad, taps on your phone number and forms sent as separate conversions. We leave the rest out. Ovas Build, a builder whose Google Ads we run, uses the same approach. Everything is judged on enquiries, not on clicks.
Regrouting and repairs
Small jobs have their own searches, such as regrout shower or cracked tile repair. They cost less per click than a bathroom renovation and bring in customers who may call again for a bigger job. We give them a separate ad group and a short page, so a budget meant for renovations is not spent on a ten minute repair. If you do not want small jobs, we keep those searches out entirely.
Builders do not click ads
Many tilers get their steadiest work from builders who ring them directly. Those people do not search for a tiler on the day, so ads will not reach them. Ads are for the householder who has never heard of you. We say this plainly so you do not expect the account to replace the builder relationship.
Waterproofing and claims
If you hold the required licence for waterproofing, the ads can say so, and the licence details go on the page. If you do not, we leave it out. The rules differ by state, so we ask what you hold before we write a word. We also avoid promises about timeframes or finish quality that we cannot check.
Your account and your spend
You create the Google Ads account and add your own card. You pay Google directly for every click, and we never hold your payment details. We are added as a manager, and you can remove us whenever you like.
Each month you get a short report with spend, clicks, enquiries and cost per enquiry, with the changes we made and why. The add-on is month to month and cancels on 30 days notice.
How people look for a tiler
Most tiling searches come from someone in the middle of a renovation. They type bathroom tiler, floor tiling cost or tiler near me, and many are also looking at tile shops the same afternoon. A good share are planning, with no date set. Paid search suits tilers who want quote requests with photos and measurements, rather than a flood of price checks.

Accounts and sites we run in other fields
We do not run a tiling account yet. Ovas Build is a builder whose Google Ads and search we run, and All Round Carpentry is a carpenter whose site and search we run. They show how we set up and track. They are not tiling results.

15Enquiries in two weeks
A builder who got no leads from lead services now reports several large project enquiries a week, from a tradie website we had live in about a week.

All Round Carpentry
5xMore Google impressions
One carpenter, Helensburgh to Nowra: 18 suburb pages, 11 services and his own photos, and Google now shows the site about five times as often.
Google Ads for tilers: your questions
- Are Google Ads worth it for a tiler?
- It depends on how you fill your diary. If a few builders keep you busy, ads add little. If you want householder bathroom jobs and floors, a small account can bring in quote requests. We start small, judge it on real enquiries and tell you if it is not paying.
- How much should a tiler spend?
- You set the budget and pay Google directly. Tiling clicks are not the most expensive in the trades, but the buyer is slow. We suggest one job type in one area first, usually bathrooms, and a modest daily cap. Our fee is separate from your ad spend.
- How do you stop tile shoppers clicking my ads?
- With negative keywords. Searches for tile prices, tile shops, tile suppliers, adhesive and grout products and do it yourself guides are kept out, and we check the search terms report weekly. If you also sell tiles, we adjust.
- Can I advertise waterproofing?
- Only if you hold the licence or authorisation required where you work. Rules differ by state. We write nothing about waterproofing until you tell us what you hold, and your licence details go on the landing page.
- What should the landing page ask for?
- A name, a phone number or email, and a comment. We add a prompt asking for the room, an approximate size and photos if they have them, so you can give a useful first answer. We do not add other required fields.
- Do you track phone calls as well as forms?
- Yes. We count calls from the ad, taps on your phone number and form submissions as separate conversions, and keep Google's own engagement actions out of the count. That way the numbers you see are people who asked for you.
- Can I show the ads only when I can answer?
- Yes. Tilers are often on a job with a wet saw running, so we usually show the ads all day and have the form take after hours enquiries. If you would rather the ads run only when you can pick up, we set the schedule to match.
