Google Ads for painters, built around the quote form

The form carries the account
For a plumber the phone is the conversion. For a painter, it is usually the quote form. People asking three painters for quotes would sooner write a few lines than hold on the phone in a meeting.
So we set up the form as the main conversion and watch it first. It asks for a name, a phone number or email, and a comment about the job, and nothing more. Calls from the ad and taps on your number on the page count as well. Every form sent is reported back to Google Ads, so the account learns which clicks turn into quote requests.
Paint shoppers are not your customers
Paint words attract buyers of paint. Someone typing a colour name, a brand or paint for a bedroom wall wants a bucket, not a quote. A broad painting campaign will pay for many of those clicks.
We add negative keywords for brands, colours, colour charts, tools, retail and hardware. We read the search terms report each week, and check each negative against the work you do before it goes in. If you also supply a colour consultation, we leave that in.
One reply decides it
A homeowner asking three painters for quotes often goes with whoever replies first and sensibly. Ads can pay for the click, but the reply decides the job.
We set up your form emails so each one carries the job type, the suburb and the line saying where it came from. On the site we built for Ovas Build, every enquiry email says whether it came from Google Ads or a page found in search. When a form arrives, you know what the person wants before you pick up the phone.
If you cannot reply the same day, the form can say when you will. That is better than a silent form.
Campaigns by buyer
A householder repainting a bedroom, an owner repainting the outside of the house, an agent with a vacated unit and a strata manager with a building are four different buyers.
We keep them in separate campaigns where the search volume allows. Exterior painting gets its own page about preparation and weather. Interior gets one about protecting the home. Strata and commercial get one about insurance, access and common property. Pre sale repaints get a page about speed. Budgets for each can be raised or paused on their own.
Following the seasons
Exterior work tends to build in dry months, and interior work fills the quieter weeks of winter. Pre sale repaints rise ahead of the spring selling season.
We move the budget between campaigns across the year, and agree the plan with you in words, not guesses. You can see spend as it happens in your own Google Ads account.
Showing price or not
Many painting searches ask for a cost. Whether your ad shows a range is your decision. Showing one can cut down on people who were never going to hire a painter at that level. Leaving it out brings more enquiries and more conversations about price.
We start without a figure unless you tell us otherwise, and we look at the quality of the enquiries after a few weeks. If too many are price shoppers, we can try a range.
Your account, your spend
You create the Google Ads account and add your own card. You pay Google directly for clicks, and we never hold your payment details. We are added as a manager and you can remove us whenever you like.
Each month you get a short report on spend, clicks, quote forms, calls and cost per enquiry, with the changes we made. We do not promise a number of enquiries. Our fee covers managing the account, month to month, and cancels on 30 days notice.
How people look for a painter
Painting searches are full of people who want paint and not a painter. Someone typing dulux colours or wall paint is shopping. Someone typing house painters near me or exterior house painting quote has a house to repaint and is about to ask for three quotes. The ads have to reach the second person and stay clear of the first.

A builder who got no leads from lead services now reports several large project enquiries a week, from a tradie website we had live in about a week.

All Round Carpentry
5xMore Google impressions
One carpenter, Helensburgh to Nowra: 18 suburb pages, 11 services and his own photos, and Google now shows the site about five times as often.
Google Ads for painters: your questions
- Do Google Ads work for painters?
- They can, when the account is aimed at quote requests. Painters sell on a comparison, so the ad has to get a form in front of someone who is already collecting quotes. We track the form and phone calls, and we report enquiries as well as clicks.
- How do you keep out people shopping for paint?
- We add negative keywords for paint brands, colours, colour charts, buckets, rollers and retail terms, and review the search terms report every week. Each negative is checked against your work first.
- What is the main conversion for a painter?
- The quote form. Most painting enquiries arrive as a form rather than a call, so the form is the first number we watch. It asks for a name, a phone number or email, and a comment. Calls from the ad and taps on your number count as well.
- How quickly should I reply to a quote request?
- As fast as you can. A homeowner asking three painters for quotes often goes with the first that replies sensibly. If you cannot reply the same day, the form can say when you will.
- Can I advertise strata and agent work?
- Yes, as separate campaigns with their own pages. Search terms like strata painting and commercial painting have a different buyer and a bigger job. We keep their budget apart from the homeowner campaigns.
- When should painting ads run?
- Exterior work builds in dry months and interior fills winter, so we shift the budget between the two. Pre sale repaint searches rise before the spring selling season, and we plan for that with you.
- Do I keep the Google Ads account if I leave?
- Yes. You create the account and add your own card, and we are added as a manager. If you cancel, you remove our access and keep the account and its history.
