SEO for physios: write physio, then add the conditions and the funding

Patients say physio, name the body part and often add a fund, DVA or NDIS. A clinic that has a page for each of those gets found by the people who can book.

Start with the word patients use

Patients type physio, and a physio site should too. We lead titles and headings with it and keep physiotherapist for the formal places: practitioner pages, registration lines and the footer. The same applies to the Business Profile, where the category and the name matter more than the description.

A page for each body part

Back, neck, knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, pelvic floor, kids. Each page says what the problem is, how physios assess it and what a first visit involves. Each ends in a booking button. The pages do not say cure, fix or guarantee, and they do not use the word specialist.

Funding pages reach the right patient

Funded streams change who searches and what they ask. A page for Medicare plans explains the GP plan and the limit of five allied health services a year. A DVA page says what a referral covers. An NDIS page says whether you take plan-managed and self-managed participants. A workers compensation page tells an insurer or case manager how to reach you.

What the report says

Each month you get the searches the site was shown for, the pages we changed, the calls and bookings recorded and what did not move.

Body part, fund, scheme

In Google Trends for Australia over the 12 months to 1 November 2026, physio scores 86, physiotherapy 37 and physiotherapist 11.5. The figures are a relative index, not volumes.

Platforms, directories and the map

We have not measured page one. These are the listings a clinic sits beside, so read the results for your own area.

Booking platforms
HotDoc and HealthEngine list allied health, and practice software such as Cliniko provides booking pages.
Professional directory
The Australian Physiotherapy Association runs a Find a Physio directory for members.
Fund finders
Health funds publish provider finders, and fund names show up in physio searches.
Other clinics
There are 9,493 physiotherapy businesses in the ABS count, up 5.0% in a year. The count is of ABNs, not clinics. Reviews and exact profile detail decide the map.

Clinic by radius, funded work by region

Regional

A clinic's patients come from a few kilometres, because they attend repeatedly. Home-visit, NDIS and workers compensation work is searched over a wider region, and it suits a service-area profile.

  • One profile per location, category Physiotherapist, services listed by condition, booking link and exact hours
  • Condition pages and practitioner pages before suburb pages
  • A funding page for each stream: DVA, NDIS, workers compensation, Medicare plans
  • A home-visit page with the regions you cover, if you offer it

Treatment claims need evidence

Physiotherapy Board of Australia

The Board's advertising guidelines require acceptable evidence for claims about treatment. A claim for dry needling, cupping or acupuncture, or words like cure and fix, needs that evidence, and testimonials about treatment are not allowed. Acupuncture is not an approved endorsement for physiotherapists. A clinic that republishes or embeds reviews on its own pages is responsible for them.

Condition pages explain what physios do and what a first visit involves, and leave out promises of recovery. Technique pages say what the technique is and who may offer it. The review widget stays off the site until it has been checked against current Ahpra guidance, and Google reviews remain on Google.

SEO for physiotherapists: your questions

Why not write physiotherapist in the titles?
Because patients type physio. Write physiotherapist where the formal name belongs, in practitioner pages and the registration line, and use physio in headings and titles.
Do suburb pages work for a physio clinic?
For a fixed clinic, a page on how to find the clinic and one for each condition does more than suburb copies. Sports and pelvic floor searches complete with suburb names, so a page that has something specific to say about the nearby sport clubs or hospitals can earn a place.
Should we have a page for DVA, NDIS and workers compensation?
If you take that work, yes. Some of those searches come from the person paying and some from the patient, and each has its own rules. A short page on how you work with each is enough to start.
Can a page use the word specialist?
Not for a physiotherapist without the College's Specialisation. The Board says specialist, specialises in and specialised are likely to mislead when no specialist registration exists. Write has experience in or works primarily in.
What about NDIS prices on the page?
NDIA-managed and plan-managed participants cannot be charged above the NDIS price limits. State that you work to them, and link the current limits. We did not confirm the physiotherapy line item for 2026-27, so we would not quote a figure.
Do reviews matter for ranking?
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. Ask after each course of treatment and reply to every review. The reply must not discuss clinical detail.
How does seasonality affect physio pages?
Little. Five years of Trends data show a dip in December and a mild high in winter, a swing of about 25%. The injuries people search for are more likely to be tied to sport seasons in your area.
How long does physio SEO take?
Nobody can give a date. The profile can show change in weeks. Pages for conditions and funding take longer. We report each month what moved.
