Why a locksmith site starts with proof

This is the one trade where consumer regulators publish warnings about advertisers who look like local locksmiths and are not.

What the site is for

The visitor is locked out, or has just had a break-in, and is deciding who to call. They have probably seen a warning about locksmith scams.

The top of every page carries your name, a photo, your licence number, your area and a number that dials on tap. Below that is one honest price statement: what a lockout visit costs in total, and what changes it.

Service pages follow for lockouts, rekeying, lock changes, car keys and commercial work. Each says what you do, what the visit involves and which licence covers it. A page of your reviews and a link to your licence register entry finish the proof.

Three buyers, one question: is this firm real

Each wants a different next step, and all three check you first.

Licence rules differ by state, and the number is often required

NSW Police, Queensland Fair Trading, WA Police and Victoria Police

In NSW, locksmiths hold a security licence and a licensed business must show its Master licence number in advertising. Queensland requires a Class 2 security provider licence, and WA licenses security installers, with locks and safes in Class 1. Victoria has licensed private security activities since 19 June 2025, including security equipment installers. We have not confirmed how that applies to locksmiths.

The licence number and class sit beside the phone number and in the footer. Where a state's rule is unconfirmed, the page links the regulator's register and states no rule. A price shows the total, because the ACCC treats a part price as misleading.

Urgent service sites we have built

We have not built a locksmith site. Avalanche Pest Control and Wollongong Service Company are urgent home service businesses whose sites we built. They show a named business, live reviews and a number that dials on tap. They are not locksmith results.

Web design for locksmiths: your questions

What goes in the identity block?
Your name, a photo of you, your business name, your licence number and class, your service area or address, and a phone number that dials on tap. It repeats at the top of the page and in the footer.
Can we publish prices for a lockout?
Yes, as a total or a clear range. The ACCC says a part price needs the single total shown at least as prominently, and regulators are pursuing advertised fees that do not match what people pay.
Should the site show a street address?
If you have premises, yes. If you work from a van, a service area statement is honest, and Google lets a service-area business hide its address. A made-up address is prohibited.
Do we show customer reviews?
Genuine ones with the reviewer's first name and suburb where they agree. The ACCC says fake reviews breach the law, and we write none for you.
How do you handle car keys?
On their own page. In NSW an automotive locksmith is exempt from the security licence only in relation to vehicles, so the licence position of a car key page differs from a home lockout page.
What does the quote form ask?
A name, a phone number or an email, and a comment. For a lockout the phone is the real path, so the form is for rekeys and commercial work.
Do you use stock photos of hands on locks?
No. A stock photo is a sign of a call-centre site. We use photos of you, your van and your work.
