What the site is for

An appliance is dead and the household wants it fixed this week. The visitor knows the brand and the fault, and usually has a rough idea of what a new one costs.

We build the site from that sequence. The home page asks which appliance. The next screen asks the brand and the fault, and the result is a page that says what is likely wrong, what you do about it and what the visit costs. A booking form sits at the foot of the page and carries the details across.

Brand pages come next, then fault guides, then suburbs. The authorised repairer wording is its own component, so it cannot drift from brand to brand.

Who books a repair, and what stops them

Most want a visit this week. The doubt is whether it is worth repairing at all.

Washing machine or dishwasher has stopped
This week
Pick the appliance, the brand and the fault in one screen, then a booking form with a call-out statement beside it.
Oven or cooktop fault
This week
Separate gas from electric, because the licence behind the work differs and the customer should see it.
Fridge not cooling
Same day if possible
A phone number first, since food is at stake, and a refrigerant licence line.
Wondering whether to replace
Deciding

Say which brands you are authorised for, and only those

ACCC, with the ARC for refrigerant work

The Australian Consumer Law bars misleading claims, so authorised repairer status may only be claimed for brands where it is true. Manufacturers and importers must take reasonable steps to provide spare parts and repair facilities for a reasonable time. Repairing a sealed refrigeration system needs an ARC refrigerant handling licence. A call-out fee that is only part of the cost needs the total shown as well.

Each brand page states whether you are authorised or are an independent repairer of that brand. Fridge pages show the licence. The booking form sits beside a total or a range for the visit.

Web design for appliance repairers: your questions

What does the appliance picker do?
It asks which appliance, which brand and what the fault is, then returns the matching page and a booking form with those details already in the comment. It saves the caller from describing it twice.
Can the site tell people whether to repair or replace?
It can give the questions that decide it: the age, the cost of the part and labour, and the price of a new unit. We do not print a percentage rule without a source.
How is the call-out fee shown?
As the total for the visit, or a range with what it covers. A headline fee that leaves out labour or parts is a part price, and the ACCC wants the total shown beside it.
What happens to brands I repair but am not authorised for?
They get a page that says you repair them as an independent. Wollongong Service Company reworded its brand pages for 16 authorised brands to keep this honest.
What does the booking form ask?
A name, a phone number or an email, and a comment. The comment is where the appliance, brand and fault go. Nothing else is required.
Should the site sell parts?
If you sell them, yes, with a clear way to ask. Parts shoppers who find the site are not wasted traffic for a business that supplies them.
Do you write the fault guides?
With you. A guide on a washer that will not drain is useful to a caller and honest about when a visit is needed.
